Valentine’s Day is a day of romance, but for many couples, clutter in the master bedroom can hinder romantic feelings. The master bedroom needs to be a relaxing retreat from the chaos of day to day life. As a professional organizer, I’ve helped to declutter and organize many master bedrooms. Time and again, I come across these 3 items that bring chaos and remove the romance from the room.
For a comfortable, relaxing & romantic bedroom, remove:
- Laundry- Whether it is dirty, hanging to dry, or clean and waiting to be folded, the overflow of laundry in the bedroom can halt romance. If you have a laundry room, I suggest using that for folding and drying all laundry. Otherwise, use another room in the home for your laundry base. I’ve seen bonus rooms, living rooms, or dining rooms become the laundry zone, anything is better than the master bedroom. As for your dirty laundry, store it in a covered hamper in a closet or bathroom, some distance from the bed.
- Children’s Toys- If you have children, designate the master bedroom for the parents only. Don’t bring kids’ toys into the room at all, and don’t set up extra toy storage in the master bedroom, no matter how little space you may have in the child’s room. Tripping over blocks will not make your bedroom a romantic oasis.
- Paper- Most importantly, remove bills and office paperwork. A few books and magazines are fine, but once you start reviewing credit card statements and bills in your bedroom, the piles will start and the romance will die. Sort these somewhere else in the home, such as in the kitchen or at a home office desk. Do not let the paperwork enter your relaxing zone.
There are certainly other ways to decorate and add romance to your bedroom, but purging these 3 key pieces of common clutter will certainly pave the way for more relaxing and romantic evenings in the master bedroom.
