As moving day approaches, you may have many moving boxes that all look alike. Using colored duct tape or duck tape to color code moving boxes will streamline the moving process. Colored duct tape will save you time while packing and unpacking!
Select a different color tape to represent each room. Just place that color duct tape on all the boxes packed in that room. I suggest Duck brand duct tape because it comes in many vibrant colors and patterns, and it is very durable.
Create a master list designating a color for each room, and place a roll of that color tape in the room as you pack. For example, all kitchen boxes could have green tape, while all home office boxes have pink tape. Young children will enjoy helping with this process, and choosing the brightly colored tape for each room.
When packing the moving truck, it will be easier to place the boxes for each room together. Boxes can then be unloaded one room at a time. This is very helpful if friends and family are helping you move, or if you’ve hired movers.
If there are boxes that are going to a storage unit for long term storage, you can choose one color to represent the storage unit as well. If you prefer, you can keep track of the contents of each box by using a permanent marker to write on the box or duct tape.

On move-in day, you can also place a piece of the correct color tape on the door to each room. This will make it easier for everyone to bring the boxes to the proper place. On your next move, make a small investment in colored duct tape for a better organized moving experience.

That is such a great idea, I hate moving day , but this will make it more fun and organized. If you have any other tips to making moving easier please let me know.
All packing box are same, we do not know which item is placed in the box. That’s why we should write something above the box so that we know which item is in the box. Your color code ideas is better. I like the your idea. Thanks for sharing the great information. Good Luck!
Thank you! I am glad you like this idea.
The tape provides such a brilliant, simple, and Oh, So Colorful idea to organize a move! I love this. It must make moving day more festive.
Thanks! I guess it does make a more festive move!
Great idea! These tapes can also be patterned. The kids could decide on a pattern that represents their room. Thanks for sharing.
You’re right, Sabrina. These tapes come in many patterns, which kids will enjoy.
Interesting idea. I struggle with duct tape, so we use packing tape and label boxes with Tag-A-Room labels. They are color coded by room.
