If you’d like a short organizing project that can make a positive change in your life, consider reorganizing your linen closet. Sheets and towels are used daily, and by organizing this space, you can save precious time. Here are 7 reasons to organize your linen closet.
1. To save time putting away laundry
When you arrange your linen closet to have a set area for different sizes of sheets and towels, these will be much easier to put away after washing. By adding labels to the shelves, or containing linens in baskets or fabric bins, you and your family will be able to quickly put the items back in the proper place.
2. To make it easier to find items
With an organized linen closet, you and your family will save time searching for items because every linen will have a defined home. Bed making and changing towels will be faster and easier.
3. To be ready for guests
If your linen closet is set up to store guest sheets and towels, extra blankets, pillows, sleeping bags and air mattresses, you will be better ready for guests any time. You will be prepared for visiting relatives or a child’s sleepove because everything will be easily accessible.
4. To streamline packing for trips
If you need linens such as beach towels or sheets for vacations, having an organized linen closet will streamline the packing process.
5. To know what purchases you need to make
After decluttering and organizing your linen closet, you may find that you need something like an extra set of sheets for a guest room. Because of organizing, you will know exactly what items you need to buy and can shop for those items at your leisure.
6. To be charitable
Although you can repurpose old tattered towels, sheets, and blankets as rags, some animal shelters accept donations of these things for lining the bedding areas of pets waiting to be adopted. If you have linens in good shape, but you don’t want them any more, consider donating them to the charitable organization of your choice.
7. To improve relationships
Families argue about many things, including searching for or putting away linens. By having a clear location for these things, and designating which towels go to each bathroom and which sheets sets go to each bed, you can help reduce family conflict.

I might add that it just makes you happy to open the door and look at beautifully folded linens. As belongings go, linens are one item that – when properly folded – actually look pretty on a shelf! Organizing this space is so worthwhile. Get rid of all of those sheets that don’t fit any beds in your house:)
You’re right Seana! Organizing this space is so worthwhile and just looking at properly folded linens can make you happy! Thanks for commenting.
I enjoy organizing the linen closet. I have a narrow linen closet, so I had to be very creative when organizing the shelves. Trifolding the towels worked nicely, so it doesn’t lay over the edge of the shelves and get caught in the folding doors. Being creative with unique closet spaces is crucial in keeping a linen closet neat.
Narrow linen closets are very common, and you do need to be creative to keep a linen closet neat. I also trifold the towels in my linen closet. Thanks for commenting.
Organizing a linen closet is one of my favorite projects to do with clients (or for our family.) It never ceases to amaze me what “other” things we find hidden in there. So one of the first things we do before we organize is to edit the items that don’t belong or that are no longer wanted. Usually, a lot of things get released, which is great because it makes room to beautifully organize the keepers.
You’re right, there are usually lost of “other” things hidden in a linen closet, and it is important to remove those first before organizing. Thanks for commenting!
